Today’s date is March 15th, 2001.   The interviewer, Kay Jones, introduces the subject for her interview, quilt artist Jean Vining. The interview is being conducted for the Quilters’ S.O.S. Oral History Project.             17             38 Quilt for the interview   Jean, you’ve brought a beautiful and interesting quilt today. Tell us about it.    Vining discusses the quilt she brought for the interview, which was made for her sister and brother-in-law’s 50th wedding anniversary. She talks about the pattern of the quilt, which is called “Friendship Pinwheels” and how she created the quilt. Vining describes the imagery on the quilt and how it pertains to her sister’s marriage and family, as well as the colors used. She then continues to discuss the technical aspects of the quilt, including the number of blocks which make up the quilt and the different stories of each block. Vining discusses how her sister uses the quilt, which she enters into competitions and wins awards for.
